I-Cancer 13.10.2017, Heliography, Unique
This work marks a profound intersection of historical technique and personal experience. I created it using the original heliography process developed by Joseph Nicéphore Niépce in 1822/1827 – the world’s first permanent photographic method. For this, I employ Syrian asphalt (Bitume de Judée) dissolved in lavender oil on tinplate, exposed to sunlight for several hours.
As part of the series “Forever and Ever, Heliography for my Sons”, this piece was created during my cancer diagnosis in 2017. From a moment of existential crisis emerged a meditation on permanence and legacy.
2019, from the series “Forever and Ever, Heliography for my sons”.
